Within the framework of its Sustainable Urban Mobility campaign, the European Commission today announced the 20 winning actions set to receive up to EUR 7000 each in financial support. This money will be used to further the activities of the winning initiatives promoting sustainable urban mobility.

European Commission Vice-President Siim Kallas, responsible for transport said, ‘The European Commission has earmarked more than EUR 500 000 over three years for practical support to active campaigners promoting sustainable urban mobility in European cities. Providing the most effective campaigners across Europe with increased visibility and up to EUR 7000 represents a proactive step to encourage European citizens to diversify the transportation they use.’

Following the first of three EU-wide calls for funding applications, more than 200 actions have so far been registered on the central www.dotherightmix.eu campaign website and nearly 100 have also applied for funding. Upon completion of a rigorous judging process, winners were chosen from the batch of applications received. The next call for funding applications will open in March 2013 and groups of individuals as well as non-commercial entities (schools, NGOs, public administrations, etc.) are eligible to apply. Applicants are invited to register their actions promoting sustainable urban mobility on www.dotherightmix.eu.

The European Commission’s Sustainable Urban Mobility campaign is linked to the European Mobility Week, which runs from 16 to 22 September every year and culminates in the ’In Town Without My Car!’ day. The campaign is managed by the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport and funded through the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme – the EU’s support programme for non-technological actions in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
