A ground breaking initiative spearheaded by the European Commission is being launched across the EU this week to highlight the growing demand for skilled information and communication technology (ICT) users and professionals to drive a competitive and innovative Europe.

More than 100 pan-European events involving some 300,000 participants will be held as part of European e-Skills Week to enlighten students, young professionals, industry and policy makers to the vast range of opportunities that ICT-related jobs present.

    Europe needs your e-skills

Promoting the best of UK practice in e-skills is at the heart of a one-day conference in central London today, hosted by Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. André Richier, European Commission specialist on competitiveness of the ICT sector and e-skills, joined Stephen Timms MP, Minister for Digital Britain and Financial Secretary to the Treasury in addressing leading representatives of industry, academics, policy makers and education specialists.
