SESAR Deployment Phase launched
5th December 2014 is a key milestone of the SESAR project: a partnership agreement has been signed by EU's Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc and the SESAR Deployment Alliance consortium.
What is SESAR?
SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research) is the technological pillar of the Single European Sky. It aims to improve Air Traffic Management (ATM) performance by modernising and harmonising ATM systems through the definition, development, validation and deployment of innovative technological and operational solutions. These innovative solutions constitute what is known as the SESAR concept of operations.
This concept is defined in the European ATM Master Plan, its components are developed and validated by the SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU) and they are deployed through Common Projects, SESAR deployment governance and incentive mechanisms. All three of these processes (definition, development and deployment) are components of a virtual lifecycle that actively involves the stakeholders and the Commission in different forms of partnerships.
With the implementing Regulation on Common Projects (Reg. (EU) 409/2013 ) the Commission has activated the deployment process that will close the loop of the SESAR lifecycle and allow SESAR to fully deliver its benefits from concept to implementation. Through the binding framework at EU level set up by the Regulation, the Commission aims to ensure that the SESAR project evolves rapidly and seamlessly to its deployment phase by creating the right conditions for the timely and synchronised deployment of SESAR concept of operations throughout the European ATM Network
