Interreg V-A - Poland-Germany/Saxony

Programme description

Main objectives

The poor accessibility of the border area as well as sociocultural and linguistic barriers are the main obstacles to the development of the Germany-Saxony (Poland) cross-border area. The programme will focus on four key areas in order to create a common and better connected cross-border region and contribute to the implementation of Europe 2020. These are: sustainable use of natural and cultural heritage; cross-border transport; cross-border education and cooperation involving institutions and citizens.

To achieve these strategic objectives, the programme aims at:

  • developing a common attractive region for tourism based on its cultural and natural heritage;
  • creating a more integrated transport network abolishing bottlenecks near border crossings;
  • bringing education standards closer, increasing bilingual and cultural competence and the mobility of students at all levels to match better the needs of the local labour market;
  • supporting cooperation of emergency and police services to help prevent and manage natural disasters and cross-border crime;
  • strengthening cooperation between citizens to help overcome historical, cultural, linguistic and other differences.
