Programme description
Main objectives
The "Interreg V-A Italy-Slovenia" programme is designed to contribute to the achievement of the strategic goals of the Europe 2020 Strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. The programme aims at investing in growth and innovation, promoting environmental sustainability and improving the quality of life of the citizens in the regions alongside the Italian-Slovenian border. The programme will also address the issues of climate change, sustainable mobility, and unemployment in the cross-border area.Actions in these priority areas will be complemented by efforts to foster closer cooperation among local governments. This is expected to deliver solutions to territorial challenges related to innovation, low carbon economy, environment, natural and cultural resources, and institutional capacity building.
Further cross-cutting themes have been identified as complementary to main programme objectives and will be addressed through specific actions in the fields of information and communications technologies (ICT), small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) and education.

Some of the expected results
- Delivering innovative tools for water and waste management with a built-in green technology;
- 27 research institutes participating in cooperative research programmes;
- 24 municipalities cooperating to reduce energy consumption;
- 56.000 hectares of natural sites supported with the programme interventions;
- 13 innovative green technologies tested and implemented;
- 11 joint solutions to increase integration, coherence and harmonization of local governance in the cross-border area.
