Package Travel

In 2007 the Commission published a working document
to set out the main regulatory problems in the area of package travel and also to consult stakeholders on issues related to the Directive. The consultation showed strong support for its revision. The outcome of the consultation
is presented in this summary of responses

In January 2009 the Commission launched a "Study on Consumer Detriment in the area of Dynamic Packages
", focusing on the measurement of consumer detriment in the area of so-called "dynamic packages".
Against this background, the Commission launched a public consultation on the revision of the Directive in November 2009. The consultation is now closed. While the consultation in 2007 sought to outline the problems with the existing Directive, this consultation focused on possible ways of solving the main problems with existing package travel rules.

On 22 April 2010 the Commission held a full-day stakeholders' workshop on the revision of the Package Travel Directive (90/314/EEC).
The aim of the workshop was to discuss the policy options identified during the revision process.

After considering the feedback from consumers, civil society, national authorities and business, the Commission will assess the different policy options with the aim of presenting a possible proposal for revising the current legislation in 2012.
Revision of the Package Travel Directive
On 5 June 2012 the Commission held a conference with stakeholders on the revision of the Package Travel Directive (90/314/EEC).
The purpose of the conference was to discuss and clarify some key issues, in view of the presentation of a proposal in the last quarter of 2012.
