Sharing information is vital and formats need to be interoperable. Standards are important to avoid fragmentation and secure interoperability.
It is important to showcase real-life experiences as a tool to demonstrate that solutions exist and work and could be leveraged cross-border and cross-sector.
While many Member States have already introduced digital service infrastructures that drive competitiveness and markedly improve the daily lives of their citizens, there is currently a lack of interconnection and interoperability among such systems at European level.
The Commission is funding the deployment Digital Service Infrastructures developed under the Connected Europe Facility (CEF) to roll-out the IT building blocks tested since several years by Large Scale Pilot projects to ensure interoperability (such as e-Procurement, e-ID, e-Delivery, e-Signature) and linking up Member States’ infrastructures. CEF is a funding programme for trans-European projects in the area of energy, transport and telecommunications (Telecom). CEF Telecom will invest €1.14 billion, during the period 2014-2020, in the availability of broadband (€170 million) and access to online services across Europe (€970 million).
