Below are a number of key messages from previous eIDAS high-level private sector events:

Once one is using eIDAS, one is benefitting from the reuse, and one has the insurance, which will reduce the risk multiple systems. There should be a combination between privately issued eIDs versus publically issued eIDs available.

With smartphones and mobile devices, one option is to use identification through the SIM card, as telcos are a regulated sector on which governments can rely for EU security and data protection requirements. We need a common system supported by everybody.

There is a need for more strategic education and communication around the purpose and benefits of the eIDAS Regulation.

Citizens do not necessarily trust digital processes. There needs to be a balance between security needs and accessibility for the end user. There is a need to redesign digital systems to simplify inputs, being driven by both the business case and user needs. It should be clear what the minimum data set is that citizens have to provide, or what the minimum data set is that service providers should be allowed to ask for.
