This publication is a compendium pocketbook that presents the most important data from all the business areas that Eurostat covers, and is intended for the generalist reader. While it is not exhaustive, it does provide information on a wide spectrum of European business statistics, including the business environment, the business enterprise population, and major sectors of the business economy, namely energy, manufacturing, construction, distributive trades, the information society and services activities. This 2003 version benefits from recent progress in the development of European business statistics that has improved the availability of harmonised data.
