Shipbuilding and repair in the EU has more or less stabilized after a historic decline. The dynamics of the industry shows further development of thriving niche markets, such as cruise ships, yachts and pleasure boats, against a weakening construction of tankers and large freight carriers. This change in focus has favoured small shipbuilding enterprises.
