R&D in enterprises - Issue number 39/2007 - Products Statistics in Focus

The publication shows the distribution of the R&D expenditure and of the R&D personnel to the economic sectors in Europe. The manufacturing industries performed the lion's share of the R&D expenditure (81 %of the total), with very R&D intensive sectors such as the pharmaceutical industry. Much less R&D was in contrast performed in services (17 %of the total) where computer and related services were particularly research intensive. The intensities in R&D personnel often correlate with the quota for R&D expenditures."
