EU development policy

In the year 2000, the European Union (EU) joined world leaders at the United Nations Millennium Summit in a pledge to reduce global poverty and save millions of lives. Leaders of 189 countries agreed on eight specific goals to be achieved by 2015.

European Commission Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development, DEVCO, is responsible for designing European development policy and delivering aid throughout the world. DEVCO delivers aid through a set of financial instruments with a focus on ensuring the quality of EU aid and its effectiveness.

An active and proactive player in the development field, we promote good governance, human and economic development and tackle universal issues, such as fighting hunger and preserving natural resources.
