1.1 Where are we now? EU waters and policy implementation

Where are we now?" offers an overview of the latest available information on the state of water resources in Europe, focusing on issues such as ecological status, hydro morphology, water efficiency and vulnerability. It will also address the state of EU freshwater policy, presenting the results of a Fitness Check that assessed how effectively existing measures are achieving the objectives of water policy, identifying gaps and suggesting improvements.
The session will zoom in on the state of implementation of EU water legislation, with a special focus on the Urban Waste Water and Nitrates Directives, and EU Member States' River Basin Management Plans.
