Freek Van Eijk
Freek van Eijk is Director of Strategy and Public Affairs and a member of the Extended Management Board within SITA Northern Europe Waste Services (NEWS).
SITA Northern Europe Waste Services is the Waste Management branch of SUEZ Environment in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. SUEZ Envirronement is a world leader exclusively dedicated to water and waste management.
He is a long time Board Member of the Dutch Waste Management Association (Vereniging Afvalbedrijven (VA)) where he also chairs the Strategy and Policy Committee.
Freek van Eijk also serves as a Board Member of the Society and Enterprise Foundation (Stichting Maatschappij and Onderneming (SMO))
As a Director Strategy & Public Affairs he sets the direction of the company and is at the basis of the implementation of new developments. Today’s theme’s are a.o. adopting the concept of the circular economy to counter material and energy scarcity; pro-actively adapting to the challenges of the credit crisis; development of EU regulation in the field of Climate, Energy, Procucts, Producer Responsibility and Waste; implementing sustainable development and adapting the company to new line of thinking in carbon equivalents; aiming at fair competition between public and private players as well as taking positions in the market consolidation.
Other roles at SITA include(d) secretary of the external Advisory Council of SITA in the Netherlands and Belgium, Risk Manager and Sustainability Officer.
He is a regular invitee or chair for brainstorming sessions not only within SUEZ Environnement but also at Branch and Ministerial level.
Before joining SITA/SUEZ Environnement he held several management positions within the international ARCADIS company.
He has published a number of articles and is a regular speaker at conferences. In the last year international presentations where given at FEAD annual conference (Paris), ISWA (Lisboa), Waste Management Finance Forum (London), India International Recycle & Waste Management Conference (New Delhi) and Sustainable Industry Forum (Brussels).
Freek van Eijk is maried, has one daughter and speaks 5 languages.
