The DROPIN strategy is to meet unhealth at an early stage. In the view of a sustainable social development the proposed activities aim at providing healthy life choices. In an innovative way the DROPIN partnership will deal with unhealth related to discrimination or exclusion on the labour market. There is a focus on models and working methods to impact structures and attitudes in society that exclude and discriminate which in turn may lead to unhealth. The DROPIN project also focus the transition between high school and the labour market and will search for and make use of alternative ways to impact structures that forms obstacles in the transition process from school to working life.Schools may be the place of growth for discrimination but also the arena where a supportive environment for personal development can be offered and developed. The DROPIN project will provide methods and models that leads to increased self-awareness and acting-power of high school pupils and different staff groups that meet and interact. DROPIN activities will be offered to pupils at the individual program at three high schools in three various municipalities in the County of Västmanland.The DROPIN project will be active at various levels – the individual level, at the working place and in society. As the use of each individual’s competence and development possibilities is of major importance for a working life without discrimination and exclusion the working methods will have an individual perspective. The DROPIN activities aim at investigating and strengthening the entrepreneurial assets of the individual in terms of the powers the individual use in order to deal with different life situations.The project consists of activities such as the development of methods for health focused discussion, personal development connected to increased health, development and use of technique for storage and use of personal information, research on marginalizing structures and attitudes that excludes young people from the labour market, assessment of the development within the EQUAL partnership and project activities and the use of existing knowledge about unhealthiness in working environments where pupils at the individual programs in high schools and high school drop-outs meet staff at various working places.Time for reflection on the learning process in the partnership is an important part of the project, dissemination activities work on all levels, international, national, regional and local. Healthcoaches, health-consequence descriptions, welfare balance sheets and health statistics give the project partners the possibility to contribute to the sustainable development of society. The DROPIN has en equality aspect built in each of the different areas of activity.

Agreement Summary

Text available in

The transnational partners’ common interest is to improve young people’s employability, by supporting and strengthening the co-operation between education, enterprise and social system. The agreement therefore aims to:
1) limit and/or prevent the problem of dropping-out featuring all geographical areas involved;
2) improve the employment of young people who have problems with the access to the labour market
3) support better integration between school and/or university on the one hand and enterprise and social system on the other
4) support integration of educational products to optimise the offer;
5) support the development of future oriented competencies
The issues falling under these aims are created to strengthen Europe’s ability to meet sustainable development objectives which are fully described in the Lisbon’s strategy and the European Youth Initiative as well as in the United Nations Decade on “Education for Sustainability”. Within the stated aims different European partners can contribute on their rich diversity to socio-economic sustainability, by improving young people’s work abilities and opportunities. This work will be mostly done on their regional socio-economic models and come to the EU market by exchanging, spreading and disseminating information as well as results. On the other hand, the initiative will contribute to building a knowledge-based society, by increasing the human capital in terms of better education and skills.
The issue of sustainable regional development therefore represents another main interest for transnational partners, who will outline a framework of socio-economic sustainability to be implemented at regional level by relevant players and to represent a product for the mainstreaming.
Methodology
Although all transnational partners deal with similar issues within national programmes, the aspects in focus are different. Each DP will therefore bring different contributions in terms of actions implemented at national level and results to share, which are nonetheless complementary – each representing a segment of a more complex model that will be outlined and defined through indicators and submitted to regional players’ evaluation.
Transnational methodology will favour exchange and comparison of information and results. Case studies, educational offers, best practices, models of educational integration will be some of the items of this activity. Each DP will contribute to the activity, according to what is produced within the national programmes.
On the other hand, all DPs will deal with guidance and integration of educational offer as well as integration of systems (education-enterprise-welfare/assistance). To do this, they will transfer knowledge, adapting methodologies and instruments, develop approaches that are innovative in terms of know-how and competencies needed as well as tools to use. Partners will therefore develop parallel innovative approaches whose methodology and results will be shared and will contribute to the joint implementation of a framework on sustainability.
Since the transnational partnership is rather large, the TCA could also include “bilateral” actions, to allow some DPs to go deeper in some topics that may not interest the whole group.
Exchange of players will also be considered strategic for further development of the relationship between organizations and European areas.
Underlying problem
Each European region involved in the project has different economic features, but they all suffer from high dropping-out rates in school and high rate of young people with difficulties to access labour market. All DPs also highlighted the need to strengthen the relationship of educational, economic and social systems, to improve young people’s employability. Closer co-operation between schools, universities and enterprises is fundamental to fill a gap that all partners have noticed in their regional contexts: On the one hand enterprises need specific job profiles to manage their processes, on the other hand schools offer profiles that no longer correspond to those needed. As a result of this gap in some of the considered European regions, young people cannot find suitable jobs and consequently leave their region either to look for better work opportunities or to achieve qualifications and competencies that meet the requirements of enterprises. In the long run, the local labour market will get poorer in competencies and regional development slows down.
The transnational partnership will tackle school and university dropping out as well as “brain drain” in required cases to prevent the problem and reduce youth unemployment. As a result, sustainable regional development can be fostered by focusing the attention of labour and educational policy measures on young people’s unemployment. Targeted people will mostly be aged 15-24, but there will also be over 24. These will either be university students that do not achieve their degree in the foreseen number of years, or unemployed young people that need to improve their competencies to have better chances in the labour market.

Drop-in

Rationale

Text available in
