The European Union Regional Trust Fund in response to the Syrian crisis’ exhibition "Faces of Resilience: From Syria and the Region" by photographer Johanna de Tessières displays portraits and personal stories of those whose lives have been irrevocably impacted by the Syria crisis.

Johanna’s photos document a selection of the many projects supported by the European Union through the Trust Fund. They shed light on the individual lives behind the unimaginable numbers, which have been irrevocably changed by the Syria crisis. These photos also showcase how the EU’s support has enabled many Syrians, Iraqis, Jordanian and Lebanese people to start rebuilding their lives and to turn desperation into hope. Despite trauma and personal losses, the protagonists of these stories reveal their extraordinary resilience and determination to carry on, care for their children and dream of a better future.

The photographic exhibition, which has now become itinerant, was displayed at the European Parliament in Brussels in occasion of the Brussels III Conference “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region” in March. At the same time, the photo exhibition was displayed at the EU Delegation to the United Nations in New York and before that, it was hosted by the External Action Service for a month, between September and October 2018.

In April, the exhibition was on display at the EU Delegation to the US in Washington D.C. and was opened in the margins of the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The exhibition was also present at the EU Delegation to New York throughout UNGA 74 and at the EU Jordan Film Festival in Amman, Jordan in September. It will continue to travel around the world in the coming months.

The itinerant exhibition raises awareness on this lasting crisis and delivers important messages of EU solidarity and support to Syrians and the countries in the region hosting them.
