Missions 2015

  • Meeting with the Flemish minister responsible for transport Mr Ben Weyts and a visit to the A11 motorway project around Zeebrugge on 29 September 2015

This was the first ministerial meeting by the new coordinator. The issues discussed included: the connectivity of the ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge, the study on the Iron Rhine rail connection between Belgium and Germany through the Netherlands and the question of urban nodes.

The meeting was followed by a site visit to the A11 motorway construction site. This project is the first one being funded under the project bonds initiative. It will improve the traffic flows around the port of Zeebrugge. The financial engineering of the project was presented and discussed. During the talks it became clear that the project could serve as a very good example of the use of alternative funding sources for the development of the transport infrastructure.
