Rail fatalities per million train-km

This indicator is calculated with 5-year moving averages of railway fatalities divided by the average rail transport activity over the same period, measured in million train-km. It includes workers, passengers, crossing users and unauthorised persons. The 5-year moving average has been introduced to observe systemic rail safety performance.

Consumer satisfaction with urban transport

The ranking is based on the ‘Market Performance Indicator’ (MPI) — a composite index which indicates how well a given market performs, according to consumers. The MPI is calculated based on the components: comparability, trust, problems & detriment, expectations and choice (as a weighted average of the components with the weights being equal to the relative importance of each component). This calculation is computed for each market-respondent combination before being aggregated for reporting purposes.
