Stakeholders meeting on the use of alcohol interlock devices

Brussels, 1 July 2013

Albert Borschette Conference Centre,

Rue Froissart 36

Meeting room AB 2A

The Commission identified the enforcement of road safety rules as one of its strategic objectives for 2010-2020. In this field of enforcement, one of the Commission’s priorities is the prevention of driving under the influence of alcohol.

As part of the continued effort to prevent drink driving and thereby increase road safety, the Commission wants to examine the possibility to make alcohol interlock devices mandatory for certain categories of drivers or vehicles.

To this end DG MOVE commissioned a study on the prevention of drink-driving by the use of alcohol interlock devices. The purpose of this study is to provide the Commission with relevant information that will assist in deciding whether or not to propose EU legislative measures requiring the installation of alcohol interlock devices as a means to prevent drink driving. In the context of this study, a workshop is being organised to discuss the matter with stakeholders.

Attendance is by invitation only. Organizations intending to participate shall send their request to Ecorys, which is the consultant in charge of the study, to the following address:
