The initial strategy adopted at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping by at least 50% by 2050 - taking a significant step forward in the global efforts to tackle climate change.

The preliminary 2017 road safety statistics released by the Commission show, for the second year in a row, a decrease in the number of fatalities of around 2%.

The Commission is committed to reducing CO2 emissions, congestion and air pollution to improve the quality of life of European citizens and to reach the goals set by the Paris Agreement. At the same time, we want to ensure that European transport is safe and our industry remains competitive on the global market. To support these aims EU Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc has called for 2018 to be the "Year of Multimodality" - a year during which the Commission will raise the importance of multimodality for the EU transport system.

The European Commission updated the EU Air Safety List. One airline, Avior Airlines (Venezuela), is added to the list, while two others - Mustique Airways (St. Vincent and the Grenadines) and Urga (Ukraine) - are removed following safety improvements.
