Registration open: workshop to discuss sport’s contribution to regional development

Published 23 July 2019

As part of the European Week of Regions and Cities, the workshop will take place from 09:15-10:45am on 9 October 2019 in Brussels.

Sport and physical activity’s increasing importance for local and regional development continues to be a focus at EU level. A workshop entitled ‘Sport for active & healthy communities' will therefore highlight this topic, and will be attended by Tibor Navracsics, Commissioner for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture. Via policy discourse and best practice examples, the event will underline the role of sport for active and healthy communities, as well as sport’s vital contribution to the five investment priorities for Cohesion Policy beyond 2020.

The workshop will take place under the backdrop of the 2019 European Week of Regions and Cities, where from 7 to 10 October 2019 more than six thousand people from across Europe and beyond are expected to celebrate regional and city collaboration to the EU project. Under the headline "Regions and Cities: Pillars of the EU's Future", the 17th edition of the European Week of Regions and Cities will offer more than 300 sessions – including Workshops, participatory labs, regional talks and thematic discussions – as well as exhibitions such as "Agora Village", and tastings of regional and city cuisines.. Sessions will take place at the Square in Brussels.

Interested individuals can view and register for events and activities until 27 September via the Week of Regions and Cities registration page. The workshop on sport can be accessed via the session registration page, using the code 09WS611. Events are expected to be well-attended; it is therefore advised to book early.
