Workshop on Smart Specialisation through Sport during the European Week of Regions and Cities

The Smart Specialisation through Sport Workshop, organized in the framework of the European Week of Regions and Cities, took place in Brussels, on the 10th of October 2017.

The workshop explored the relationship between sport, regional development and innovation-driven social and economic growth and invited participants to discuss on the contribution that sport can make to regional development through smart specialisation. It covered the benefits of sport for local communities, cities and regions, explored how policies which address sport together with other policy areas can create an enabling environment, and looked into the projects led by the ClusSport partnership.

For many people, sporting competitions offer opportunities to also learn about other cultures. Take the Icelandic team in the Euro 2016 – people loved the Viking Thunderclap and the amazing support of the Icelandic fans. Sport also brings people together, just look at how Belgium becomes one when their football team is playing, or the recent Davis Cup Final.

Youth ambassadors speak out on anti-doping

Through a peer-to-peer approach, prePLAY fought against doping in sports. The project engaged athletes at grass-roots level and anti-doping ambassadors to drive change.

#BeInclusive EU Sport Awards winners announced

At #BeInclusive EU Sport Awards ceremony on 22 November, Commissioner Tibor Navracsics, presented the three winners with their awards and a prize of 10,000 euro each.

Sport Satellite Accounts – technical support at national level 2018

The Directorate General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture is planning to award the above contract as a low value negotiated call for tenders. The activities consists mainly of providing technical support at national level to set-up national Sport Satellite Accounts and discussing with relevant organisations outstanding issues in view of data availability/gaps.
