Sport is fun, exciting, and brings people together. This makes it a powerful tool for breaking down social barriers, creating a sense of European identity and building a more inclusive world. Every year, the European Commission awards organisations whose work recognises the power of sport to improve social inclusion for disadvantaged groups.
Europeans organisations are using sport more than ever as a constructive means of including all kinds of backgrounds: ethnic minorities, refugees, migrants, people with disabilities, vulnerable young people or any other group that faces challenging social circumstances.
Presenting the Winners
Winning projects are presented as examples of best practices in the field of inclusion and non-discrimination, and the awards therefore aim to foster new and innovative ideas and initiatives among other organisations and individuals across Europe – furthering social integration through sport.
The three winners are announced every November at a special awards ceremony in Brussels. Prize winners have the opportunity to present their projects to an audience of sport inclusion experts and to be appreciated for the vital work they undertake to support social inclusion and empowerment through sport-related activities.
