This year’s European Vocational Skills Week campaign is bigger than ever, with a range of exciting Week-associated events and activities taking place throughout Europe. One interesting example is the ICDL Kick Off event, which marks the 500th event out of nearly 800 registered so far this year.

About the Event

Name: Launch des ICDL in Deutschland - Standards für die digitale Arbeitswelt
Date: 10/10/2019
Location: Universitätsclub Bonn

Organised by DLGI (Dienstleistungsgesellschaft für Informatik), the event will see experts in the field of Education and Economy gather in Bonn, Germany to discuss the possibilities of creating an international standard for digital skills to support employability.

Speakers at the conference will include:

•    Prof. Dr. Friedrich Hubert Esser, President of the German Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB);
•    Friederick Richter, Director of the German Data Protection Foundation;
•    Dr. Regina Flake, Economist at the German Economic Institute

DLGI provides vocational training with a focus on digital skills. They developed the ICDL (International Computer Driving License), which is a certification aimed at creating a universally recognised standard for digital skills and competencies.

Katrin Cürük, Advisor for Public Relations and Digital Learning from DLGI said: “Our focus for the event is to bring economy and education together. We hope we can create a strong and dynamic collaboration for the future between schools and companies.

This event is perfect for people with an interest in the future of work and how education can help learners prepare for the digital workplace. Human Resources professionals, or members of international institutes can also benefit from the event, which will be attended by teachers from the ICDL test centres in Germany.

CEO of DLGI, Thomas Michel added: “When it comes to practical working skills, VET is one of the most important things we have to digitize and ICDL can help to build a solid foundation level for every participant."

The European Vocational Skills Week can be a great reason to take a look at the activities in our countries and the organisations which are focused on the European mindset. We know how important an international network is, and this event has the potential to bring people together.
