A PES innovation lab as an answer to upcoming labour market challenges
To tackle new labour market challenges and face the “future of work” that awaits us, innovation is key. The creation and implementation of an innovation lab is a challenging and rewarding step in this direction, especially for a cross-national network such as ours. A PES Network Working Group took up this chance and started the discussion on creating such a lab on 25 April at the Flemish PES, VDAB.

The future of benchlearning - Informal heads of PES meeting
Following the philosophy of benchlearning – the plan-do-check-act cycle – improving Network activities and the benchlearning exercise itself is high on the Heads of PES agenda. The Spanish board member invited heads of PES to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of current activities and look at the path ahead on 13 May in Madrid.

Mutual assistance in Spain – A first workshop on labour market analysis
Mutual assistance projects (MAPs) are an essential part of the benchlearning process, and a unique opportunity for PES to learn from each other’s experience. This year, two mutual assistance projects will take place, in Spain and the Czech Republic. In April, a first workshop from the Spanish MAP took place in Zaragoza on labour market analysis.

Looking forward: responses to future challenges and a new PES Network chair
2019 is a year of renewal for the PES Network. On 6 and 7 June, the 11th meeting of the PES board will take place in Bucharest. Heads of PES are coming together to discuss PES-related issues on a strategic level, reflecting both national and EU perspectives and envisioning the PES Network’s future role.

How to stay in the forefront – A working group on evidence-based learning
Customer needs and expectations are changing due to digitalisation and evolution in the labour market. The general argument for using reliable evidence for the development of PES measures and service is that this helps increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the PES. A working group was set up to underline evidence-based learning as a core element of the PES network.
