This Peer Review presented Universal Credit, a new type of benefit in the UK which was designed to support people who were on a low income or out of work. Universal Credit replaced six existing benefits and aimed to make work pay and effectively incentivise people towards and within work.
The event provided opportunities for exchange with other European countries to discuss experiences of developing and implementing a single payment benefit system, particularly an in- and out-of-work benefit system, as well as discussing how to monitor and evaluate the impact of implementing such a system. It also demonstrated the Digital Service for Universal Credit, which allows claimants to manage their claims on-line.
The Peer Review was hosted by the Department for Work and Pensions, United Kingdom, as part of the Mutual Learning Programme.
