How did major structural reforms prepare one Public Employment Service for the challenges of COVID-19? Find out in the latest episode of PESPod!

Learn how the Public Employment Service (PES) in Lithuania undertook radical structural reforms to deliver a modernised, flexible service for jobseekers and employers, and all just in time for the major challenges of 2020. All in the latest episode of PESPod – the podcast of the European PES Network!

In episode 7 of PESPod, Inga Balnanosiene, Head of the Lithuanian PES tells us about their journey from 46 regional organisations in 2010 to a single body by 2018.

Hear her views on the important efforts they undertook for open communication with staff, jobseekers and businesses to ensure that everyone had an opportunity “to participate… and be a part of the change”. Hear also how her own experiences in different roles within the PES and in project management helped her understand and support staff in dealing with the challenges they were facing.

Expected benefits from the reforms had included “more efficient… more active… and united ways of providing our services for jobseekers and business companies all over the country”. This theory was dramatically put to the test during the Covid crisis that started in 2020. Listen to this latest episode of PESPod to find out what happened next!

Also look out for the October edition of PESPod where we will be speaking to the European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit. Any comments about PESPod? Write to us at: EMPL-PES-SECRETARIAT@ec.europa.eu.
