The European Seniorforce Day in Slovakia took place on 21-22 September as part of the Volunteering Days, an annual tradition established by NGO C.A.R.D.O. in 2009.

UNECE Ministerial Conference concludes with commitment to meet the individual and societal challenges triggered by population ageing
The UNECE Ministerial Conference on Ageing held on 18-20 September 2012 in Vienna, Austria, concluded with the adoption of the Ministerial Declaration “Ensuring a society for all ages: promoting quality of life and active ageing”.

Combating child poverty through measures promoting the socio-cultural participation of clients of the Public Centres for Social Welfare (Belgium)
In the European Union, one in five children lives in a household which is at risk of poverty. As families are forced to economise on all but the most basic needs, spending on educational and recreational activities, among other things, tends to be restricted. This is potentially damaging for children's future prospects; experiences in early childhood have a significant impact on outcomes in later life and are thus crucial for social inclusion in adulthood. In order to tackle those issues, a multidimensional, long-term strategy which addresses the deficit in socio-cultural participation is needed.

UNECE region reports progress in meeting the needs of an increasingly ageing population, but challenges remain
Over the past 10 years, UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) member States have made significant progress in adapting social protection systems, promoting health and independent living and adjusting labour markets to the needs of an increasingly ageing population.

The Lebendige Stadt Foundation recognises Schwerin as the Best Barrier-Free City in Europe
The Lebendige Stadt Foundation, together with the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, has proclaimed Schwerin (Germany) Best Barrier-Free City in Europe. The ceremony took place on 6 September 2012 in front of about 500 guests at the Gesellschaftshaus Palm Garden in Frankfurt.

From 0 to 100 years in 150 seconds
On October 2011 young Dutch filmmaker Jeroen Wolf started documenting people in the city of Amsterdam, approaching them in the street and asking them to say their age in front of the camera. The result of that is the short film “100 - from 0 to 100 years in 150 seconds”.

Croatia launches quest to find Top Seniors, as part of the European Year 2012
Marking the European Year 2012, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Social Welfare Policy and Youth of the Republic of Croatia have organised the competition “Young at Heart – the Award of the European Year for Active Ageing”.
