More than 160 relevant stakeholders participate in the European Commission’s conference on Good Governance for Active and Healthy Ageing
More than 160 representatives from national governments, regional and local authorities, social partners and other relevant stakeholders participated in the conference "Good Governance for active and Healthy Ageing", which took place in Brussels on 4 June organised by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion.

The EC´s Council for Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs adopts conclusions regarding the response to be given to demographic challenges
The European Union’s Council for Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs (EPSCO Council) adopted on June 21st in Luxembourg conclusions regarding the response to be given to demographic challenges through enhanced participation in the labour market and society.

Occupy Your Own Age demands more action to municipalities in the implementation of new services for the elderly in Finland
A recent survey carried out by the Finnish NGOs behind the Occupy Your Own Age campaign (Valtaa Vanhuus) and answered by over 200 local officials responsible of services for the elderly, reveals that Finland’s municipal authorities are well aware of the challenges and needs of an ageing population. However, the planning of specific services in municipalities seems to bee lagging behind, according to the campaign’s spokespersons.

Rise in the number of scholars aged 60+ working in English universities
A recent report published by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) indicates that the number of scholars aged 60+ in English universities has risen sharply over the last years, while the number of younger academics is decreasing.

Senior of the Year Award launched in Malta
The Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly and Community Care of Malta, Mario Galea, launched the 19th edition of the Premju Anzjan tas-Sena (Senior of the Year Award) on July 27, during a visit to the Day Centre for the Elderly in Dingli.

Commission, Parliament and European Council bring together religious leaders to discuss solidarity between generations and demographic challenges across Europe
More than 20 senior representatives from Christian, Muslim and Jewish religions and from the Hindu and Bahá'í communities from all over Europe met on July 12 in Brussels, under the motto “Intergenerational Solidarity: Setting the Parameters for Tomorrow's Society in Europe”.

To mark the celebration of Grandparents Day in Spain, the non-governmental organisation Development and Support (Desarrollo y Asistencia) launched with great success a nation-wide campaign on July 26th in Twitter, aimed to leave no “abuelo” or “abuela” (grandfather or grandmother) without a virtual hug on such a special day.

The Ageing Well Challenge rewards ideas that can reduce isolation and increase mobility of older people
UK’s National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) has announced the launch of the Ageing Well Challenge, a prize looking for innovative ideas that can reduce the isolation and/or increase the mobility of vulnerable older people.
