Social security coordination and non-standard forms of employment and self-employment: Interrelation, challenges and prospects

Non-standard forms of employment and self-employment are more and more frequent in the EU. This has an impact on social security systems which have not been fully adapted to such new forms of work. This report explores how these non-standard forms of employment and self-employment are classified under national social security law and identifies any problems for social security coordination when non-standard workers move within the EU. It presents possible solutions to overcome these obstacles in order to guarantee the freedom of movement of non-standard workers.
