NSZZ Solidarność is a trade union representing 52000 members (teachers and education and non- education staff from pre-school education up to post-secondary one) in Poland. NSZZ Solidarność is a member organisation of the European Trade Union Committee for Education (ETUCE). Following ETUCE’s pledge, NSZZ Solidarność has extended and will enforce its actions among Polish teachers:

  • to advocate the importance of apprenticeship;
  • to improve quality in VET and in apprenticeship;
  • to enhance cooperation with actors on apprenticeship, such as employers' organizations
  • chambers and local bodies running in vocational schools.

As a result, one of our major actions in the field is a project led by the regional branch of Solidarnosc in Białystok (the east of Poland) started in 2013 and will continue up until 2015 to share best practices in the field of legal arrangements and aims at local cooperation for the modernisation and development of vocational education, with special attention to improve apprenticeship in vocational education. In addition, the effect of the project is the promotion of good practices and solutions developed as a tool to counter the liquidation of vocational schools and labour market development for teachers' unions, in the light of improving apprenticeship.

In the future we plan to raise awareness among Polish teachers and educational employees on the importance of apprenticeship by similar local and regional projects and information materials.
