ŠKODA AUTO a.s. supports and promotes the dual vocational training principles as the standard. To achieve this goal, ŠKODA AUTO a.s. cooperates with a wide range of partners: the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the National Institute for Education, Education Counselling Centre and Centre for Continuing Education of Teachers.
The training provided is based on the needs of ŠKODA AUTO a.s. and uses ŠKODA technology standards. However, it also covers the latest science and industry knowledge to better shape the qualifications provided. Finally, the experience of the VW Group is also included.
Apprentices gain professional experience in the relevant ŠKODA AUTO a.s. departments immediately after their graduation.
ŠKODA AUTO a.s. offers to around 50 apprentices the opportunity to stay for 4-6 weeks at another European site every year. Participating sites include Germany, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. In 2018, ŠKODA AUTO a.s. offered to 2 apprentices the opportunity to stay for up to 6 months at another European site.
In principle, ŠKODA AUTO a.s. offers a full-time employment contract to all apprentices who successfully complete their training. More than 80% of the apprentices are placed in a position linked to their field of study. The best apprentices also receive the Volkswagen Best Apprentice Award.

ŠKODA AUTO a.s. belongs to the Volkswagen (VW) Group. In 2016 ŠKODA AUTO delivered more than 1 million vehicles to its customers. The Vocational School of Mechanical Engineering is part of the ŠKODA Academy of ŠKODA AUTO a.s. The ŠKODA Academy is responsible for the personal development of ŠKODA AUTO employees and for the development of their technical skills and competences.
ŠKODA Academy employees are involved in shaping the personal-development concepts and tools in line with the strategy of the VW Group Academy. The ŠKODA Academy is furthermore responsible for the technical education of students and talent development. The goal of the Academy is to link social and technical competences, transfer know-how and ensure that students are ready for their practical training.
To ensure a continued supply of qualified employees ŠKODA Academy trains more than 1,100 young people per year. This training is delivered according to the dual training principle, combining work and learning with the aim to obtain the different vocational qualifications that the company needs. In more than 90 years of its existence, the school has prepared nearly 23,000 graduates for future jobs. Every year we have around 300 graduates.

Key activities: The ŠKODA Vocational School of Mechanical Engineering will open new fields of study (4-years, 3-years). Each field of study starts in September and ends with a school-leaving exam after 4 years or with a final exam after 3 years. We plan to offer new fields of study that are in line with new trends as well as with Industry 4.0. Current programmes (2018/2019): Car electronics technician, car mechanic, car bodywork painter, bodywork manufacturer, mechanic fitter, machines and devices mechanic, metal worker, engineering works, operations and traffic economy, toolmaker, Mechanic electronic engineer, IT mechatronic Curriculums are defined based on legal requirements of the Czech Republic and needs of a company including elements of dual study – the training on the job (in the factory of ŠKODA AUTO). Additionally, we focus on further development of soft skills and a special learning of ŠKODA culture. To ensure quality during the training on the job, since 2017 we have trained more than 460 instructors. Basic training takes 1 day covering setting cooperation between school and technical department, advanced training takes 2 days covering pedagogy, didactics, how to work with students, students motivation. VET Teachers ensure the quality of this training. Overall, the support to teachers, teachers of vocational training and instructors focuses on: pedagogy, didactics, psychology, technical, soft skills, languages, new IT skills, ŠKODA culture and internal trainings, international trainings (new methods, languages, etc.). Becoming member of the alliance will allow to share and exchange knowledge and experience, and to further improve quality. We are looking forward to learning more from other EAfA members. We apply the principles described in the EFQEA above all in relation to learning and working conditions, quality assurance and tracking of apprentices. Indicators: Quality is measured by the % of apprentices that are placed in a position of their field of study, result of school-leaving exam, results of final exam.

Key activities: In principle, ŠKODA AUTO a.s. offers a full-time employment contract to all apprentices who successfully completed their training. Apprentices are assessed on the basis of criteria aligned with ŠKODA culture. The evaluation is done twice a year and at the end of the final year there is an evaluation interview where competencies are evaluated (e.g. work quality, problem solving, cooperation, skills, responsibility, etc.). More than 80% of apprentices are placed in a position of their field of study. SKODA reaches out to students through information campaigns in elementary schools. They describe the training programmes, the benefits of apprenticeships and school-leaving exam and final exam success rate. Indicators: number of students reached; number of students that apply for SKODA’s training programmes The best two apprentices are awarded within the Volkswagen Best Apprentice Award. The nomination is done in two rounds and the results are published on our website and social media. Indicators: number of relevant articles published; number of people reading the articles; number of relevant posts and reach on social media Every year for the past 6 years we ran a project called AZUBI Car. The aim is to put together a group of student from different kind of fields of study and produce a car. The project helps our students to learn skills as cooperation, communication, social competencies, professional competencies (expertise in the scope of the field of study and cross-field) The project is advertised internally (portal, website, internal press) but also externally (social media, TV, press). Indicators: number of relevant articles published; number of people reading the articles; number of relevant posts and reach on social media We also participate in the National competition Car mechanic promoted by the Ministry of Education and the Czech Association for Motor Trades and Repairs. ŠKODA AUTO is also partner and organizer and takes part in the professional panel together with other employer or competition´s partner (i.e. Bosh, Scania, Univer, etc.). This competition aims to: • Motivate students to study cars field of study • Development of cooperation between future students employers and secondary schools in CZ • Comparison of skills and knowledge of students. ŠKODA AUTO takes part in all categories: Car mechanic, car bodywork painter, bodywork Indicators: number of participants to the event; number of students participating to the event EAfA members could share and exchange knowledge on this topic to improve processes and quality.

Key activities: ŠKODA AUTO a.s. offers around 50 apprentices the opportunity of staying for 4-12 weeks at another European site. Participating sites include Germany, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. In 2018, ŠKODA AUTO a.s. offered 2 apprentices the opportunity of staying for up to 6 months at another European site. Our aim is to send abroad 20% of students from each fields of study in their last year (4 year or 3 year or follow-up study). We strive to continuously improve our process of cross-border mobility exchange – GDPR, Law, reduction of paperwork, time, etc. We are looking forward to learning from the other members of the Alliance and to share our experience. Finally, we aim to raise awareness and focus of Czech law on cross-border mobility. Indicators: Number of new/ additional apprenticeship placements created abroad by summer 2019
