The European Alliance for Apprenticeships is a multi-stakeholder initiative steered by the European Commission. The originator of the pledge is solely responsible for implementing the actions outlined in the pledge.

Description:

The aim first and foremost is to reach a stable and advanced, well-functioning industrial relations system, which also takes into account the role of vocational education and training and apprenticeship. In this context, HAK-IS is undertaking actions and conducting activities to meet the afore-mentioned objective. HAK-IS Confederation has been endeavouring to find ways of securing rights and fulfilling the duties to the society and workers by using all democratic means.

 

Improving quality, visibility and a better image of Vocational Education and Training (VET), especially of apprenticeship should be fostered at local, regional, national and European levels in order to ultimately increase the number of decent work opportunities for all employees, especially youth and to decrease unemployment, accordingly.

 

In this regard, HAK-IS has been drawing the attention of national education and VET institutions, authorities, policy-makers and stakeholders to the high importance of apprenticeship by preparing reports, implementing various types of projects, disseminating its periodicals and publications etc. HAK-IS also encourages its members to persuade their siblings and children about the necessity, and importance of quality of VET and apprenticeship through meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, congresses and projects.

 

HAK-IS will continue to be a proponent of VET, apprenticeship and, particularly the European Alliance for Apprenticeships (EAfA) by taking active roles in all concerned activities in the future.

 

HAK-IS will be determined to conduct awareness raising within its own network about this and similar initiatives through the projects, publications, reports, speeches and interviews.

 

HAK-IS has been continuously providing internship opportunities for the undergraduates at its own and affiliates’ head offices, in the future by building bridges with the universities. 

Short company / organisation description:

HAK-IS Confederation was founded on 18 October 1976 in Ankara. It is the 2nd biggest trade union confederation in Turkey with its around 660,000 members in 20 sectors such as public services, metal, food, tourism, forestry, finance, textile, transportation, energy, security etc. At the present, HAK-IS has 22 sectoral unions together with 657.365 workers/members in Turkey and one union from Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Around 25% of its members are women.

As an affiliate of ETUC (European Trade Union Confederation) and ITUC (International Trade Union Confederation) at international level and member of the EU-Turkey Joint Economic and Social Advisory (Consultative) Committee and IIRA (International Industrial Relations Association), HAK-İŞ (and its affiliates) has already been active predominantly in private sector and multinational enterprises.

HAK-IS Confederation will take all measures to make its 22 sectoral unions (affiliates) fully involved in the initiative throughout the country. HAK-IS will also do its best to cooperate with VET officials from public institutions, private VET providers and employer organisations for better involvement of the stakeholders.
