In 2015, Regional Law no. 30/2015 promoted the dual system in Lombardy Region.

The Fundamental principles of the Law are the following:

  • Structural integration between education and work
  • Win-win alliance between schools and companies
  • Balance between general culture and specialist/technical skills
  • Making optimal use of apprenticeships as a key tool in the creation of the dual system based on work-based experience

Lombardy Region adopted numerous coordinated initiatives to boost apprenticeships as part of the regional VET system. In 2015, Regional Law no. 30/2015 outlined the main elements of the dual system in Lombardy through the introduction of work-based learning activities: a) School-work alternance, which can cover up to 50% of IVET regional programmes;

b) Apprenticeship for Vocational Qualification and Diploma for at least 5% of enrolled students in the 3rd and 4th years of regional IVET.

Lombardy Region invested € 228.9 MILLION in the dual system for regional VET.
