CECIMO aims at improving the image and quality of apprenticeships in the European machine tool industry. To this end, it undertakes communications and advocacy actions on skills-related issues including vocational education and training. CECIMO is a key participant and organizer of policy debates on skills, putting together EU Institutions and businesses. CECIMO publishes numerous communications on the issue of skills including the European Machine Tool Industry Skills Manifesto, which is cited by various policy papers of the European Commission’s relevant DGs.CECIMO is the leader of the METALS – Machine Tool ALliance for Skills (www.metalsalliance.eu) funded by the Erasmus+ programme which aims at improving the quality of work-based learning in the sector vis-à-vis emerging technologies. In particular, the METALS project develops a European machine tool industry skills panorama with a focus on additive manufacturing technologies which will be the basis for a new vocational education curriculum as well as an e-learning platform for the European machine tool workforce. CECIMO is also a key partner of the 3DPRISM project which aims at generating 3d printing skills for the wider industry (www.3dprism.eu).

CECIMO is the European Association of the Machine Tool Industries. We bring together 15 national associations of machine tool builders, which represent approximately 1500 industrial enterprises in Europe, over 80% of which are SMEs. CECIMO defends the common interests of its members, particularly in relation to authorities and associations. It also promotes the European Machine Tool Industries and their development in the fields of economy, technology and science. CECIMO covers 98% of the total machine tool production in Europe and about one third worldwide. About 40% of CECIMO’s production is shipped outside the EU. It accounts for almost 150,000 employees and a turnover of nearly €23 billion in 2014.
