Due to demographic change and the fact that many of the manufacturing professions have been forgotten, the German manufactories are lacking qualified personnel. Since highly specialized professionals are indispensable in order to ensure quality and tailor-made production of the manufactories, there is not only the risk that traditional manufactories have to cease operations, but also that branches of handicraft as a whole disappear. Additionally, many manufactories are small companies and lack the financial means to do active employer branding.

For this reason the major objective is to promote the forgotten professions in the skilled crafts sector and to recruit young people for the training positions available in the German manufactories.
Key activities include the promotion of the professions in the skilled crafts sector at all events being organised by the Initiative and its members, such as the “Day of the German Manufacturers”, networking events and the dialogue about best practices between the members.

Short company / organisation description:~~The “Initiative Deutsche Manufakturen – Handmade-in-Germany“(German Manufactory Initiative) was founded in 2010 and represents 25 German manufactories, including many family-owned and traditional businesses as well as world-class companies. While expressing the companies’ common interests, the Initiative further accentuates the manufactories’ outstanding relevance as an integral part of the “German Mittelstand” and their considerable impact on Germany’s image as a location of industry and commerce nationally and abroad. Being so-called “Hidden Champions”, the companies are market leaders in certain segments in national, European and international markets. Products handmade in Germany, contrasting the usual global production process nowadays, are not only popular due to their exceptional quality and authenticity, but they also have a considerable impact on the cultural heritage and identity of the regions where they come from.
