Presentation of the member:
PEDMEDE, established in 1935, covers all the range of companies dealing with the construction of public and private works in Greece and abroad. Its members - approximately 5.000 - are individuals, contractors of public works as well as technical companies from the smaller up to the upper grade, according to the classification made by the Greek Ministry of Environment and Public Works.
The Association covers the whole of Greece with 13 regional sections and is the only contractors’ Federation that represents the country abroad, being a member of FIEC (European Construction Industry Federation) and EIC (European International Contractors).
The Association’s scope is to secure and promote its members’ interest and welfare and to defend their rights regarding the Authorities. Among its services is law and tax consultancy. Its legal department assists members with the proceedings relevant to public works tendering, resolves disputes between them and the Authorities, and tax experts are offering expertise concerning taxation.
PEDMEDE has its own training centre and in collaboration with Public and Private Organizations is planning seminars for its members and their staff dealing with various subjects such as legislative matters, tax, computing, safety in work, quality programs etc. Apart from that, the Association commands a Press and P.R. Department which organizes meetings, international conferences and business missions abroad.
Description of the Pledge:
PEDMEDE will commit to the following actions:
  1. Increase the number and quality of apprenticeships places in the construction companies that are members of the association. We will promote the apprenticeships initiative, in order to help young graduates acquire professional experience.
  2. Establish training schemes targeted at SMEs which form the majority of PEDMEDE members and would benefit mostly out of such innovative initiatives.
  3. Specialised training actions for topics that are highly important to PEDMEDE members. More specifically, PEDMEDE has already launched a series of seminars for the electronic tendering and procurement.
  4. Provide support to the members of PEDMEDE in order to adapt and establish apprenticeships schemes. For example, we aid them in (a) defining the scope of the apprenticeship, (b) determining the content and time outline of the scheme, (c) evaluating the results and (d) determining the lessons learned at the end of the activity.
  5. Use the communication tools of PEDMEDE (newsletter, Media, press releases, position papers etc.) in order to increase the attractiveness of the apprenticeships programmes and enhance the participation of PEDMEDE members irrespective of the company size and region of business.
Pledged to increase the supply of apprenticeships
Pledged to improve the quality of apprenticeships
Pledged to enhance the image of apprenticeships

All PEDMEDE members will be involved in the initiative.

These are construction companies that cover the entire spectrum of the construction industry in Greece (small, medium and large construction companies).
