Presentation of the member:
BOUWUNIE, the Flemish federation of the SMEs of the construction, defends the interests of its members (the employers and the independent workers in the field of construction). Thanks to its effective action at national, provincial and regional level, BOUWUNIE counts approximately 8,000 members.
As an employers organisation, one of its main tasks consists of the permanent defence of the entrepreneurs' interest, not to mention the provision of a wide range of services. BOUWUNIE supplies to its members information in the social, fiscal, financial, legal and economic fields and organises training courses in technical, commercial and industrial subjects.
BOUWUNIE is the umbrella of 6 professional associations, each one specialised in a specific activity of the field:
•  construction contractors and craftsmen
•  carpenters and joiners
•  painters and interior decorators
•  plasterers
•  sanitary system and heating installers
•  workers undertaking wiring and pipe works and/or road works.
BOUWUNIE has a national secretariat in Vilvoorde and provincial secretariats in Brugge, Kortrijk, Gent and Hasselt. BOUWUNIE informs its members with the magazine "Bouwnieuws".
Description of the Pledge:

Bouwunie will commit to the following actions:

  1. Informing our members-contractors about the existence and conditions of apprenticeship, using the Bouwunie communication tools
  2. Promoting the system of apprenticeship and encouraging our members-contractors to provide qualitative and quantitative working places, using our network experience
  3. Discussing and sharing the issue with concerned partners (social partners, government, …) about how to improve the image, the quantity and the quality of apprenticeships
  4. Monitoring pilot projects, concerning a new “dual learning system” which is recently launched by the Flemish Government, on the basis of the concrete inputs of these projects Bouwunie will provide some recommendations for decision-makers about the needs of the construction sector in order to provide more and better apprenticeships in the sector
