Description of the Pledge:

The International Association of Painting Contractors (UNIEP) represents around 60,000 businesses through its member associations in seventeen countries. UNIEP has been the voice for painting contractors and allied trades since 1953 and has proved to be the authoritative trade association representing professional painters. By representing associations with sole traders through to businesses with €200 million turnover or more, UNIEP understands the needs of small and medium enterprises, as well as the larger companies.

With UNIEP's commitment to raising skill levels and qualifications in the trade through vocational training, we operate in order to attract a new generation of painting entrepreneurs for entering the profession.

Vocational education and training, qualification, adaptation of VET to the needs of our companies and mobility of apprentices are the main issues for UNIEP’s members to focus on. Our companies are concerned that a skills gap exists between the vocational education and training systems and the needs of our SMEs. Since ten years, UNIEP is actively working in projects aiming to provide tools for comparing qualifications profiles and modules, like in the Painting Skills project (Leonardo da Vinci programme), as well as learning units to make easier for painters to move to another country. The ongoing project within the Erasmus+ programme, Painting Skills Network, is establishing a European network for VET in the painting trade. The products of the project will help to ensure that better-educated painters will be made available for the companies of the painting trade in the future, strengthening the partnership between actors in the world of work and education.
