EPIC publishes third annual thematic report and a research note on anti-bullying practices

EPIC has recently published two reports focusing on children and families within the EU.

Our latest research note showcases anti-bullying interventions from the practices collected and listed on the EPIC practice repository. This report sets out the evidence base and use of eleven anti-bullying practices with the aim of facilitating discussions on how to prevent and address bullying amongst children. Practices showcased include the KiVa Antibullying programme (which an evaluation in Finland has shown can reduce children’s anxiety and depression) and the Curriculum-based Anti-bullying programme in Greece (which strengthens the confidence of children bystanders to intervene in bullying incidents).

EPIC has recently launched its third annual thematic report which provides an overview of developments in child and family policy across the EU27 and UK in 2019. The report provides information on key trends in the provision of early childhood education and care, family leave and actions to improve work-life balance, social and income support for families, and children’s right to participation.

The EPIC team wishes all stakeholders a healthy, peaceful and happy festive season and a hopeful start to 2021.

Research note examining mental health and social exclusion in children

The upcoming EPIC research note on children and mental health will provide an overview of relevant evidence on approaches to preventing mental health issues in children.

Policy memo exploring the childcare gap in the EU

In most – but not all – EU Member States, there is a ‘gap’ period between the end of the childcare leave and entry into Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC). During this gap, families with young children are unable to benefit from well-compensated childcare leave or a guaranteed (or otherwise state-supported) place in ECEC. This EPIC policy memo will present an overview of what is known about the childcare gap, discusses policies to address the gap, and reflects on future research that might build on this knowledge base.

Policy memo examining provision of sexuality education across the European Union

Across the European Union, Member States’ approaches to sexuality education in schools varies considerably meaning different children receive different messages about living in today’s society. An upcoming EPIC policy memo will look at how sexuality education is delivered across the EU Member States.
