Research plays a key role in addressing the migration challenge as it ensures that policy decisions are based on solid data and evidence.
To support the political objectives of the European Agenda on Migration a research related Task Force on Migration has been set up with a mandate to:
- Take stock of relevant results generated by EU-funded research
- Support EU policies by proposing ways for the timely dissemination of relevant research results
- Oversee the development of a research agenda on migration which will feed into the preparation of the Work Programme 2018-20 of Horizon 2020, the European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation
- Oversee and advise on specific actions such as the Science4Refugees initiative
The Task Force on Migration was set up in February 2016 by the Directorate General for Research & Innovation and is chaired by Mr Octavi Quintana Trias. The Secretariat is ensured by unit B6 'Open and Inclusive Societies' of DG Research and Innovation.
