Coronavirus: EU mobilises €10 million for research

Top experts to advise Commission on future research and innovation policy in support of sustainable development
Today, the European Commission announces the 16 experts that will provide independent advice on how future EU research and innovation policy can best support sustainable development and the Von Der Leyen Commission’s priorities. The chair of this Economic and Societal Impact of Research and Innovation (ESIR) expert group is Sandrine Dixson-Declève, co-President of the Club of Rome.

2019 Industrial Research and Development Scoreboard: EU companies increase investment amidst stiff global competition
Companies in the European Union have increased their investment in research and development (R&D) for the ninth consecutive year, but below the global growth rate. In 2018, they invested 4.7% more in R&D. This growth is driven by the automobile, health and ICT sectors.

Commission awards more than €278 million to 75 start-ups and SMEs set to shape the future
Seventy-five promising start-ups and SMEs have been selected in the largest funding round so far under the pilot phase of the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator. As a major novelty, 39 of these companies are set to receive both a grant and a direct equity investment.
