Michel DESTOT is graduated from the Ecole nationale supérieure des Arts et Métiers (National Higher School of Arts and Crafts – engineering school), and holds a B.A in nuclear engineering and a PhD in nuclear physics (PhD thesis has been submitted under the Nobel Prize Louis Néel presidence). He is also graduated from Sciences Po Grenoble.
Research engineer in nuclear physics, he began his career at the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) first in Saclay and then in Grenoble. Then he created and was the Chairman of a high-tech start-up, CORYS, specialising in the realisation of simulator of conception and realisation of complex systems in the energy and transports fields.
Elected for the first time in 1977 in municipal administration of Hubert Dubedout, he became General Councillor in 1985. Member of the French Parliament of the Isère Department since 1988, he is also Mayor of Grenoble since 1995. At the national level, he is President of the Association of Mayors of the Cities of France.
Michel Destot has been the French Socialist Party’s National Secretary for the industry and enterprises (business). Since January 2009, he holds the chair of Reformist and European think-tank ‘Inventer à Gauche’ (Making up on the left-wing).
Passionate about music, travelling and mountains, he climbed several ascents, including the Aconcagua (6.959 m), the Eiger, the Cervin, the Grandes Jorasses, the Mont Blanc, the Meije etc. as weel as more than 50 peaks over 4000m.
