Applications Open for the 2026 Access City Award

The European Commission has launched the 2026 Access City Award, recognising cities that lead the way in becoming more accessible for persons with disabilities and older people.

The award highlights outstanding initiatives that improve quality of life for residents and visitors alike — from barrier-free public spaces to inclusive digital services. Accessible cities are not only fairer and more inclusive, but they are also more attractive for business, tourism, and community life.

Who can apply? The competition is open to all EU cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants. In smaller Member States with fewer large cities, urban areas composed of two or more towns with a combined population of over 50,000 may apply.

Why apply? Winning cities gain EU-wide recognition for their efforts and serve as role models for others. Past winners have showcased innovative solutions in areas such as:

  • Accessible public transport and infrastructure
  • Inclusive cultural and leisure activities
  • Digital tools and communication accessible to all

Prizes

  • 1st Prize: €150,000
  • 2nd Prize: €120,000
  • 3rd Prize: €80,000 Two special mentions will also be awarded for exceptional work in specific areas.

Deadline The application period is open until 9 September 2025, 23:59 CEST (GMT+2)
