New road connects Lodzkie region to Poland – and Europe

  • 04 July 2019

To better connect the Lodzkie region to the rest of Poland – and Europe – this project upgraded provincial road number 713 and linked it to regional road network.

Road No. 713 has been gradually modernised for years due to its importance for the region. This investment was an important stage of the modernisation of the road that connects the regional capital with Tomaszów and Opoczno, both important cities.

Having a modern, well-connected highway system is essential to the economic development of any region. For the Lodzkie region in central Poland, this meant building a system of roads that not only connect local villages and airports to each other, but also link the entire region to the national and European transport networks. The recent expansion of provincial road number 713 represents a big step towards creating such a transport system.

With the support of EU funding, this project expanded the section of road running between Andrespol and Kurowice. Specifically, it included modernizing 7.36 kilometres of road and adding over 6 km of pedestrian and bicycle paths, 14 intersections and 10 parking bays. On-ramps were built and/or extended and nearby utility networks were rebuilt. To improve public safety, lighting was added, an emergency call system installed, and a new water drainage system built.

Making connections

The modernised road is part of a larger initiative to develop the region’s entire transport system. The 713 is the main connection between Łódź and Tomaszów Mazowiecki. The road serves as an essential connection to the A1 motorway, which runs east of Łódź and, together with the A2 and the nearby S8 expressway, is a core part of Poland’s transportation and communication framework.

Big benefits

With a direct connection to the national A1 motorway, which is part of the European E75 route, the region has seen a significant reduction in travel time – a benefit to commuter and commercial traffic. In fact, in the one-year period since this section of road was completed, this reduction in travel time has resulted in a PLN 1 million (EUR 235 000) savings in passenger transport and a PLN 420 000 (EUR 98 700) savings in freight transport.

With the increased efficiency that this road brings, the region is attracting the attention of new companies. Such new investments have the potential to reduce unemployment and economic emigration, increase tourism and entrepreneurship, and improve the overall quality of life for local residents.

The project was implemented as part of the wider "Expansion of the provincial road No. 713 on the section of Andrespol - Ujazd and Tomaszów Mazowiecki - Januszewice along with the passage through Tomaszów Mazowiecki” initiative. Its implementation meets all EU standards in terms of axle load, environmental protection, and safety.

Total investment and EU funding
