Réunion - ESF

Programme description

The Isle of Réunion will focus ESF spending on its more disadvantaged groups with the aim of improving skills and employability.

The ESF operational programme (OP) for the French overseas region of Réunion will raise the skills and qualifications of its inhabitants by making access to education and training easier for jobseekers and disadvantaged groups. The overall budget for the ESF OP is EUR 516.8 million and it has three main priority areas for investment:

  • Reducing the number of school drop-outs and improving the qualifications for those facing the greatest obstacles to work are among the activities that will improve employability. Investment will ensure that, among others, young people, women and those with literacy problems will find it easier to get access to training.
  • Some 45% of investment will support access to employment for young people and jobseekers. In addition, spending will encourage business creation and their survival through the difficult early phases – to ensure jobs are preserved.
  • Projects supporting social inclusion will help disadvantaged social groups, including women, the disabled and those suffering discrimination, to take part in initiatives leading to sustainable jobs.

The OP is expected to result in more young people finishing school, more people with new skills, more participants in employment programmes, more apprenticeships and more new businesses offering employment.
