Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - ESF

Programme description

Boosting employment and creating solutions for demographic challenges are at the core of the 2014-2020 ESF operational programme (OP) for the German State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In the OP, initiatives supporting smart, inclusive and sustainable growth will receive a total of EUR 481 million from ESF and national sources.

Focus on SMEs and youth

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will implement its OP through three priority axes:

  • Jobseekers and the economically inactive will get help for training, qualifications and jobs in a gender-inclusive approach. Projects will boost the efforts of SMEs and their employees to adapt to change and increase their competitiveness. Likewise, researchers and R&D performers will be helped – both to encourage innovation and ensure a supply of highly-qualified workers. Over 6500 new and innovative business start-ups, and higher qualifications for 38 000 SME employees are expected as part of this priority.
  • Better and more sustainable integration of disadvantaged young people and the long-term unemployed will result from activities to promote social inclusion, such as removing obstacles to training and job opportunities. Some 36 000 people will benefit. There will also be support for projects to promote qualifications in the fields of democracy and tolerance.
  • Education, skills and lifelong learning will get 38% of the funding. There is a focus on better primary education, keeping pupils in school to obtain qualifications, improving the links between learning and work, and helping young people into their first job. Overall, a broader and stronger inclusive school system is the aim, with fewer early school leavers and easier transitions into the workplace.

Innovative projects and measures that support a more inclusive school system will be supported in order to improve young people’s chances from an early stage, irrespective of their social situations. In addition, new opportunities for reconciling work and private life will be tested and where appropriate, expanded across the region or business sectors.
