Alterenergy for sustainability in the Adriatic
The Alterenergy project promotes energy sustainability in the small communities of the Adriatic area by advocating energy efficiency and the production of energy from renewable sources.
Alterenergy will develop replicable models for the sustainable management of energy resources that can be applied in small Adriatic communities. It will also support them in planning and managing integrated actions dealing with energy saving and energy production from renewable sources. Ultimately, the organisers believe that the project can contribute to creating better surroundings and protecting the natural environment.
Integrating for greater sustainability
Led by the Puglia region, in partnership with the Adriatic Italian regions and institutional partners from Slovenia, Greece, Albania (co-promoter), Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, Alterenergy will actively encourage the participation of citizens and the local economic operators in the process. The main focus will be to successfully integrate residential areas, industrial zones and rural areas surrounding cities, each of which is an energy consumer and a potential renewable energy source, to allow greater energy sustainability at community level.
Developing tools and knowledge
On a practical level, project actions will involve raising awareness among local communities on sustainable energy use to develop knowledge on energy savings and renewable energy production as well as the specific problems in each target area. This new knowledge base will be supported by a common set of tools to support local communities in their energy planning and management activities.
The Alterenergy project team will then carry out in-depth analysis of the global energy balance in selected target communities and, together with the local population, develop an integrated energy sustainability plan for each of these communities.
SMEs will also be included in the process with the project team organising business meetings, business development support actions, dedicated seminars and capacity building workshops for SMEs operating in the energy field.
Additionally, a feasibility study will be carried out in each target community, dealing with specific actions targeted towards energy saving and/or renewable energy production and finally a limited number of pilot projects and demonstrative actions will be implemented to serve as reference models for the whole Adriatic area and beyond.
