" This project, thanks to co-financing by the European Union, complemented the town by creating and marking 62 5 km of cycling routes, which lead visitors past attractive cultural objects and natural areas in five municipalities. "

Grzegorz Kozłowski, Vice Mayor of Mszczonów

The new swimming pool complex, which was opened in the summer of 2008, is proving to be popular with the annual number of visitors increasing from 105 000 to 140 000 in 2014.

In 2010, a new tourist offering, 'Weekend with Mszczonów Thermal Baths', was introduced. Over 62 km of cycling routes were opened with many tree trunk picnic tables lining the trails. Also under the project, a rental shop was opened, offering 50 bikes and 50 pairs of Nordic walking poles, and an outdoor year-round hot tub with geothermal water (34°C). To support the increased number of visitors coming to the area, an information centre and website were created and guides were published.

Reviving the region

The new complex has led to the creation of 27 new jobs. The project was also designed to stimulate local cultural activities such as ice skating, forest trips during the winter, mushroom picking and fishing. It was carried out by the municipality of Mszczonów in partnership with the District Żyrardów, Museum of Western Mazovia, Forestry Radziwill and the Tourist Society in Żyrardów.

Moreover, the Mszczonów area is carrying out two EU co-funded follow-up projects scheduled to be finished in 2015. These projects are further developing the 'Weekend with Mszczonów Thermal Baths' by creating additional cycling routes and parking spaces. They are also constructing a building with a sauna and salt cave, playground with an artificial turf and a cross-country ski track.
