Road scheme in Lublin Province benefits local people and the economy
The construction and redevelopment of sections of Provincial Road No 747, which runs between Iłża and Konopnica in eastern Poland, will relieve three towns of traffic congestion while shortening journey times and reducing emissions. The scheme will also deliver improved road links between the Lublin region and the national and international transport network.
This project will provide for major changes and upgrades on a particular section of the No 747 road between Konopnica and Kamień, covering a total of 46 km. Along with building 24 km of new road and redeveloping about 22 km of existing highway, the scheme includes the construction of bypasses for the towns of Bełżyce, Chodel and Opole Lubelskie.
Saving time, reducing congestion
The work is designed to improve transport connections in eastern Poland in order to make the region more competitive for business and tourism. It also promises to improve the quality of life for local residents, particularly in the three bypass towns which have had to cope with heavy traffic congestion and emissions.
In addition, users of the road can expect to enjoy shorter journey times from 2015. Estimated time savings for that year are estimated at EUR 10 481 506 per year for passenger transport and EUR 1 063 213 per year for freight transport. Design speeds for the road are 70 km/hour in built-up areas and 100 km/hour in more open sections.
The project also includes the following elements: 46 bus laybys, two bridges over water; six other bridges and viaducts, including a pedestrian and cycle crossing; two rural access roads; 50 culverts, nine of which act as animal crossings; six roundabouts; and extensive road drainage works.
Environmental protection facilities are integral to the new road structure and feature noise barriers, “quiet” road surfaces along 23.9 km of highway, and the planting of green buffer zones.
The project is expected to create 1 600 jobs during its implementation phase.
